October 1st - November 3rd 2016

Welcome to Sunderland Literature Festival 2016, which is running alongside the new Creative Writing Festival. Originally developed around the Houghton Feast the Festival has evolved over 20 years and this year’s festival is the biggest and best ever

Our aim is to focus on local talent and encourage everyone who lives, works or studies in Sunderland to take part. There are talks, opportunities to meet authors, poetry readings, exhibitions and activities with topics as diverse as Reading Philosophy to Lose Weight, the History of Whisky, What Became of Bunty? British Comics for Girls and Winnie The Pooh. Look through the programme; we’re sure that you will find something that you will enjoy. We’ve even included some of our regular events such as rhyme times and reading groups to give as many people as possible the opportunity to get involved. Have a look and come along. You will be made very welcome.

The events take place across October, in a variety of venues, with morning, afternoon, evening and weekend sessions. We want to make our events as accessible as possible for people with work, childcare, caring or other commitments. The majority of the events are FREE. If you need further information about any event please enquire at the venue where the event will take place or the host library.
